1973-80 Chevrolet/GMC Pickup Upper/Lower Tailgate Molding

Reproduction upper / lower tailgate molding for 1973-74 truck models. Can be used for upper or lower tailgate application. Manufactured in stamped steel to factory specifications for an authentic fit and appearance. Sold individually. 2 required per vehicle.

The 1973-1980 Chevrolet/GMC pickup trucks were part of the third generation of the Chevrolet C/K series of trucks. These trucks were known for their robustness, versatility, and classic styling. The upper and lower tailgate molding played a significant role in enhancing the appearance of the rear tailgate.

The upper tailgate molding, also referred to as the upper trim or upper garnish molding, was a chrome-plated strip that ran horizontally along the top edge of the tailgate. It added a touch of elegance and highlighted the rear styling of the truck. The upper tailgate molding was typically made of stainless steel or aluminum and featured a shiny chrome finish. It served as a decorative element while also protecting the top edge of the tailgate from scratches and minor impacts.

The lower tailgate molding, also known as the lower trim or lower garnish molding, complemented the upper molding and provided a cohesive look to the rear tailgate. It was positioned just below the upper tailgate molding and had a similar chrome-plated design. Like the upper molding, the lower tailgate molding was made of stainless steel or aluminum with a chrome finish. It helped protect the lower portion of the tailgate and added a touch of style to the truck's rear profile.

Both the upper and lower tailgate moldings were available as optional accessories or as part of higher trim packages for the 1973-1980 Chevrolet/GMC pickup trucks. They were designed to be easily installed, usually with screws or clips, and could be added to existing tailgates or replaced if damaged or worn out.

These tailgate moldings were popular among truck enthusiasts who wanted to add a touch of customization and elegance to their vehicles. They helped distinguish the trucks and made them stand out on the road. Today, vintage Chevrolet/GMC pickup trucks from this era with intact upper and lower tailgate moldings are considered highly desirable by collectors and enthusiasts, as they reflect the classic styling and attention to detail of that time.

The 1960s muscle car era was a time of great innovation and growth in the automotive industry. It was a period of intense competition between car manufacturers, as they sought to outdo one another with increasingly powerful and sophisticated vehicles.

During this time, muscle cars became increasingly popular, particularly among younger car enthusiasts. These cars were known for their large, powerful engines, aggressive styling, and high-performance capabilities. Some of the most iconic muscle cars of the era include the Chevrolet Chevelle SS, the Ford Mustang, and the Plymouth Road Runner.

The muscle car era was marked by a number of technological innovations that helped to push the limits of automotive performance. One of the most significant of these was the development of the V8 engine, which allowed for increased horsepower and torque. Other innovations included the use of lighter materials in car construction, the adoption of fuel injection systems, and the use of advanced transmission technologies.

The muscle car era was also marked by a strong sense of cultural significance. These cars were symbols of American muscle and power, and they were often featured in popular culture, such as movies and music. The muscle car era came to an end in the 1970s, as rising fuel prices and stricter emissions regulations led to a shift towards more fuel-efficient vehicles.

Despite the end of the muscle car era, these vehicles continue to hold a special place in the hearts of car enthusiasts around the world. They are celebrated as symbols of a bygone era of automotive innovation and power, and their legacy lives on in the modern high-performance vehicles of today.
